Proof that Treyarch can't design AI

Man, I knew CoDBlops was scripted, but I didn’t know how bad it was until I watched this video. Watch as someone makes it through the entire Cuba mission without firing his gun–except for two mandatory quasi-cut-scenes.

I hope to have a review of the game up soon–I liked it–but there are some really glaring design flaws. Watching this, it’s pretty evident that the AI just plain doesn’t work.

How does this show the AI doesn’t work? He stays in cover, your allies are unkillable, makes sense. This is WHY they had unlimited enemies in previous cod games, so you had to do some work in moving forward. Since there are now a limited amount of enemies you can sit and wait till they die

But there are quite a few spots in the level where enemies DO have a very clear shot at him and don’t take it because he’s not firing at them. Or they just plain miss.

I’m not trying to make it a huge point but there are few games, even squad based ones, that I can think would allow this.

That said, I fired up the combat training mode for the first time not long after I posted this, and the AI there is pretty vicious. I would have liked to see that programming in campaign rather than emphasize so much scripted events.
