Tetsuya Mizuguchi Wants to Tear You Up

“The final goal of this game, the big emotional movement… I want to make you cry. I don’t know if it’s possible or impossible yet, but I want to make this kind of a chemical reaction, an emotional reaction.” said Mizuguchi, creator of Rez, in an interview with EGMi regarding Child of Eden.

A pretty lofty goal, no? I don’t think I’ve ever cried for a video game–I’ve come close, sure, since I’m not a robot like Michael Bluth! But never any full-on tears. Still, his goal is interesting considering the game he’s making is pretty abstract and out there. I’m not sure that the right combination of sublime shapes and colors can elicit tears from me, but I guess I’ll have to play Child of Eden to test that theory out.

He might not make me cry, but this game just might make me have a seizure.
It’s still a chemical reaction. Does it count? 😛

If you didn’t openly weep at the end of Shadows of the Collosus, you must be a robot. The kind of robot that does not have a tear duct system.
