The Sunday Gaming Club: Doughnut!

Truly, doughnuts are the king of foods. No man shalt hate them, because there are multitudes of varieties. Delicious, delightful varieties. The doughnut is king. And queen. And jack, and ace.

And the joker in the deck, if there is one, and there often is.

Games exist, and you could play them! Here are some:

1.) Hydorah, Windows

It’s been making the rounds on the PC gaming circuit, but Hydorah deserves mention even if you live under a rock. It’s a classic, Gradius style side scrolling shooter, with mechanics that seem a little less complicated and poetic than Gradius, but still pretty great. It’s more on the simplistic side, in the sense that there aren’t a lot of power ups or strange things, but that’s good. Sometimes, you need a nice, skill based shooter to cleanse the palate.

Anyway, it’s a whole lot of fun if you have the testicular fortitude for these types of games. I do, so I’m having a blast. You may, and then you will too! If you don’t know, I recommend giving it a go, since hell, it’s free.

2.) Revenge of the Titans, Windows

Not quite in the “freeware” category, Revenge of the Titans is an open beta for a fantastic RTS/Tower Defense hybrid with some serious style. It’s rare for me to recommend a game because it looks fantastic, but this game does look pretty exceptional. And that’s a good thing.

In terms of gameplay, it combines some rts elements like a complicated tech tree and resource harvesting with modified tower defense. Enemies are a little smarter than just walking slowly down winding roads, and it feels a lot more chaotic than your usual, very controlled game of tower defense. I mean, yes, it’s tower defense, so your mileage may vary, but it’s a pretty good, chaotic time, and the enemy designs are really cute, and that has to count for something.

There you have it. Two more games to clutter your hard drive with. Of course, we’ll be back next week with two more games you’ll consider playing but eventually decide against.

Until then, you stay classy, Nightmare Mode.
