Hello friends! Another month concluded, this month with a massive snowstorm that wiped out a week of Western Massachusetts time and left me sitting cold and alone in my room, pondering my fate as a human being. Would I freeze

Who the hell is this: why we can't stop loving Mario
Looking back at the mascots of the early 90’s is a funny thing. No one could have guessed that now, twenty years later, Sonic would be puttering around in the dark releasing vaguely hopeful attempts to restore its franchise to

Playing Catherine as a cheater
I cheated. After spending the last three years of my life slowly being consumed by my grave misstep, I’ve finally come out to say it. I cheated on my ex-partner. I’ve never been one for using video games as escapism–I

Mortal Kombat (2011) – Review
As the most violent Mortal Kombat game to date arrived (hey, the competition is tough nowadays), we’ve asked ourselves if the violence really was the key to the franchise’s popularity and survival. It wasn’t. MORTAL KOMBAT (2011) is a videogame

Sequels That Should Have Been: Knights of Honor 2
Knights of Honor (2004) – what a horribly cheesy title – can best be summed up as “Crusader Kings for denser people”. That’s not a bad thing, because it made it far more accessible than practically all of Paradox’s games.

Sonic to get a fresh start in 2012
With Sonic Generations Sonic Team admirably took almost everything that didn’t suck about the past 20 years of the blue blur’s career and put it in one game. Even Sonic’s own reaction to the events and character reveals seemed to reflect fan frustration with the direction the series has taken over the years. It’s the perfect end of an era for Sonic, which is likely why producer Takashi Iizuka told Gamasutra that he’s ready for the series to take a new direction. He goes on to state that by now, it seems pretty clear what a Sonic game should be, but he still wishes to surprise his fans “in a good way,” citing the powerups in Sonic Colors as a good example. Fans will certainly be happy to hear that small changes like that are the extent to which Takashi plans on modifying the Sonic formula.
