No fixed prices for Playstation Vita titles
To counter the mobile game market, Sony plans to ditch the standard of set prices on most systems in favor of “a more tailored approach”. This way smaller third party titles can be sold at lower prices compared to first party ones such as Uncharted. Sony considers the Vita a device for gamers, but ignoring all of the cheap mobile games you can easily buy on your smartphone would be “foolish and naïve”. PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan goes on to say “This is one area where we’re going to have to be very nimble internally and if consumer preference skews one way or another we will adjust very rapidly to meet what the true underlying consumer demand is.” I think this is a wonderful idea, not just to combat the mobile game market, but to help new IPs on the Vita such as Gravity Daze thrive. The $60 price point has not proved beneficial towards a lot 360/PS3 titles due to the staggering amount of competition, so the Vita going against that is a breath of fresh air. Via Eurogamer |
