2K Games and Gearbox Software officially confirm Borderlands 2 this morning. Borderlands was the surprise smash-hit that came out in 2009 featuring a unique blend of FPS and RPG elements. Add in four player co-op, unique class abilities, and an addictive loot system that sported millions of weapon combinations and it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced. The game will be on display at Gamescom 2011 and PAX Prime 2011 this month and is scheduled to be released during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2013. Full press release below:
New York, NY – August 3, 2011 – 2K Games and Gearbox Software announced today that the sequel to the extravasplosive breakout hit, Borderlandsâ„¢, is currently in development at world-renowned developer Gearbox Software. Coming to the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2013 beginning on April 1, 2012, Borderlands 2 is the epic sequel to the ultimate four-player Role-Playing Shooter loot fest.
