Top tier game journalists join forces with Vox Media

Up until now, it had been unfortunate to see such big names in game journalism like Russ Pitts and Justin McElroy resigning from their posts on the likes of the Escapist and Joystiq. Those joining them included other veterans from Joystiq like Chris Grant along with Brian Crecente, former EIC at Kotaku. It had seemed that game journalism had lost many of its best, but now we know what they’re all up to.

These venerable game journalists will be banding together to form the team behind a new gaming site headed by Vox Media (which I envision as some kind of giant robot). Vox currently maintains tech website The Verge and a sports portal SB Nation, but will be expanding its horizons into the realm of gaming. Currently we don’t know much about this new website, but as McElroy puts it,

“I, and a big team of talented folks, are going to be building the best video game site ever.”

Russ Pitts gives further credit on his blog and somewhat of a timeframe for the site itself,

“It’s going to be some time before we can actually get to work writing and whatnot, and even more time before we have an actual website to call our own. Vox is giving us a year to design and build exactly the site we want and to get it up and running…
