Bungie ends Halo stat tracking March 31st

Say what you will about the Halo series, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Bungie. They have a great relationship with their community and produced (in my opinion) the only shooters with replayable campaigns and fantastic multiplayer. With said multiplayer came some great stat tracking and sharable videos/screenshots. Thanks to Bungie, I’ve immortalized the time a friend of mine nailed some dude in the nads with a sniper rifle.

Now Bungie is ready to hand off the last of its connection to the Halo series to 343 Industries, who will be handling development of future games. As of March 31st 343 will be tracking Halo multiplayer stats on Halo Waypoint. Still, Bungie will be holding on to what data is left on its servers:

“Bungie will preserve all existing historical Halo data on Bungie.net for as long as the Internet and Bungie’s data storage systems remain functional.

Thanks for making the Halo-era version of Bungie.net more successful than we could have possibly imagined. You complete us.

See you starside.”

It’s the end of an era for Bungie, but I’m happy to see them handling publisher IP domination with class and moving on to greener pastures. I cannot wait to see what they’ll come up with next.
