Dead Space Developer Visceral Games May Be Gone By Monday

Kotaku Australia are reporting that Dead Space and Dante’s Inferno developer Visceral Games may be shut down by Monday.

An employee of the EA-owned Australian studio who asked to remain anonymous informed Kotaku that staff were told that the studio will be closed down on Monday. The developer has been working on an AAA title for the PS3 and Xbox 360 for the last three years, but Patrick Söderlund, former DICE CEO and current EA executive, opted to pull the plug on the developer, claiming that the game would likely not be profitable. Gamasutra are reporting that Melbourne’s IGDA chapter and print newspaper The Age have received the same information, giving weight to the rumor.

Should the claim be true, Visceral Games’ closure would mark the fourth Australia studio to get the axe in recent months, with Team Bondi now in administration, and the THQ shutting down Blue Tongue and THQ Brisbane in August.

Don’t forget Krome, also closed not long ago. Australia seems to have this really weird love/hate relationship with its games.

Huh, I wonder what the status of Dead Space 3 will be then. It seemed likely that EA was pushing for a trilogy with that franchise.
