Soul Calibur 5: New Characters, New Mechanics, New Stages

Good morning, readers! I bring you news of Soul Calibur 5 from this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Namco Bandi has revealed a wealth of new information and revealed two new fighters to SC5’s roster. First up is newcomer Viola, who SC5 producer, Hisaharu Tago, revealed will play an important role in the game’s story and has ties to one of SC5’s other newcomers, Z.W.E.I. Her attacks feature a mix up of quick, short ranged attacks with a vicious Freddy Krueger-esque claw, and mid-to-long ranged assault via a magical violet orb of sorts.

The other big addition is returning fighter, Astaroth — Soul Calibur’s resident frankenfighter sporting a snazzy new zombie spartan appearance. From there, we have Patroklos and Pyrrha demonstrating the new Brave Edge and Just Guard mechanics respectively, courtesy of Famitsu. Brave Edge will be the Super to the Critical Edge’s Ultra. Each character will have two available and it will consume half the soul gauge. The Just Guard acts much like the classic Guard Impact, only without pushing your opponent back and giving them an opportunity to counter you. A subtle, but noticeable change.

Finally, rounding out the batch of screenshots are a few new shots of Patroklos, the game’s story mode, and two new stages: Fuma and Evil Shrine. Enjoy.

Finally, and interesting-looking new character. Her style looks pretty cool too, I’ll have to give her a spin. Now bring back Talim dammit!
