Gears of War 3 Goes 3D

3D is all the craze right now, both with movie makers and game developers.  Gears of War 3 is the latest game to announce its plans to implement 3D technology into its game play.

In an interview with Eurogamer, executive producer Rod Fergusson let the world know that Gears of War 3 is going 3D.  “It’s still fledgling technology. It’s still a niche feature. But it was something we could support, so we felt, why not?”

There are some catches to Gears of War 3 going 3D however.  Fergusson says that the decision to implement 3D happened “late in the process” of development, and as such the game was not built for 3D from the ground up, and instead uses a post-production method of adding the 3D element to the game.  This process also sacrifices resolution, as the game will not render a full 720p, instead coming in somewhere in the five hundreds.
